A utility room needs to work hard, but it can still feel like a considered part of the home. This Bespoke by SW Build fit-out brings together custom cabinetry, floating shelves and rich blue subway tiling, with a light marble-effect worktop providing contrast.
The details of this utility-room fit-out
Our project reel, shared on 18 August 2026, shows the space during installation and the finished room. The fit-out was designed and installed to make the most of the available space, combining enclosed storage with open shelving above the worktop.
- Custom cabinetry: fitted storage with soft-close doors, keeping everyday items behind a coordinated run of cabinet fronts.
- Floating shelves: handcrafted shelves that provide open storage without adding another full bank of wall cupboards.
- Blue subway tiling: a distinctive tiled backdrop to the worktop and shelving.
- Marble-effect worktops: a light surface that contrasts with the darker wall tiles.
- Chrome fittings: a polished finish around the sink area.
Making a compact space work
The combination of cupboards and open shelves gives different types of storage their own place. Enclosed cabinetry helps keep the room tidy, while shelving keeps frequently used items within reach. Bringing those elements together with a consistent worktop and tiled wall makes the room feel complete.
For your own utility room, the starting point is how you use the space: what needs storing, how much clear worktop you need and where existing services sit. Those practical requirements should guide the joinery layout before you choose colours and finishes.
